What is the difference between the terms Indigenous, Indian and Aboriginal?
Indigenous refers to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples
Indian is the legal identification of those who were not Inuit or Metis
Aboriginal means the original inhabitants of a country
Define colonization
the settlement of colonies and the imposition of one power’s culture on another
Stages/negative effects:
-relocation/reserves
-theft of right and criminalization of culture
-residential school system
Define decolonization
the process of undoing the impact of a colonial state– an active process where we connect thinking to practice in an effort to better understand others and not just see through the Western Perspective
