Module 7.2 Flashcards
Who is responsible for tools?
The engineer themselves
Do some tools require extra training?
Yes some tools require extra training
How do you lubricate the screw on a vice?
Fully extend the jaw
How are drilling vices protected from the drill bit?
Placing Wood or steel down to stop the drill touching the wood
What must be done after every operation of the abrasive wheel?
Abrasive dust should be removed carefully
What must be ensured when lubricating the bearings on grinding wheel?
That no oil/grease comes in contact with the wheel
What must be kept out of motor drives?
Dust must be kept out
Do you have to be authorised to maintain motor drives?
Yes you do
How should precision measuring instruments be stored?
In a protective case
How should drill bits be stored?
On a drill bit stand
What two methods of tool control are commonly used?
- Tool tags
- Shadow boarding
Why must all tools be accounted for?
As any tools left on the aircraft are considered FOD. These can have catastrophic effect.
What must every tool have on it?
ID number
When should tools be calibrated?
Periodically, annually (stated by the OEM)
Name 3 materials an engineer may encounter.
- Lubricants
- Solvents
- Sealants
- Paint stripper
etc.
What is required for every hazardous material?
MSDS
Where must sealants be stored?
Fridge/freezer to prevent curing
When can you throw away two part sealants?
Fully cured before throwing away
Do sealants have shelf life?
Yes they do. Before use these must be checked , to see if they are in date
How should hazardous materials be stored?
In a lockable cabinet to control use
What is a dimension?
A measurable height, width or depth
What is the actual size?
The measured size
What is a tolerance?
How much a dimension can vary
What are the two types of tolerance?
- Bi-lateral
- Uni-lateral
What is a clearance fit?
A fit that allows for sliding or rotating
What is an interference fit?
A fit where the dimensions overlap
What is the allowance?
Min clearance space between two parts.
Intentional difference between the max material dimensional limits of mating parts.
Name 4 of the workmanship standards.
- Duty of care towards self and others
- Duty of care towards tools and equipment
- Work to a high standard
- Quality
- Attitude
- Skill of a craftsman
- Product or result
What 3 things should be on a calibration label?
- Date of last test
- Date of next test
- Authorised signature
What should be done before use of a precision tool?
- Check dates
- Approved by authorised person
- Before use zero the tool correctly
What does an inventory control register do?
Specifies all tools that need periodic calibration
Who sets out the calibration intervals?
The tool manufacturer, OEM
How are torque wrenches tested before use?
Torque analyser
How are pressure gauges checked for calibration?
Via hydraulic pumps (Oil and water) or pressure generator (oil and gas)
What care should be taken with tools that are not regularly used?
Cleaned and re-lubricated after every use or to a schedule
How do you test a mircometer for conformity?
Placing a precision block between the anvil and spindle
If any precision tool is inaccurate (Suspected or found), what should be done?
Put the tool as unserviceable
Who provides specialist tools?
The maintenance organisation.
They should provide all tools specialist or not.
How do you clean a plain wooden bench?
With a stiff brush
Which tool check is the most important?
The end of shift tool check
What is the nominal size of an item?
An approximate dimension that is used for general identification.
At what angle does a torque analyser apply force to a torque wrench to test its accuracy?
90 degrees
