-schools with more white kids get more in between school sports than ones with black kids
-not enough people of colour in coaching/ decision making roles to be role models
Individual (internalized) Racism
Internalized racist assumptions, beliefs, or behaviours
-conscious and unconscious personal prejudice
-support and reinforced by systemic racism
-people can be part of a racist society even when not racist themselves
Racial Microaggresions
Brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioural, or environmental indignities/ slights
-intentional or unintentional/ unconscious
-hostile, derogatory, negative racial slights and insults
-frequent and are unconscious
BIPOC
Black, Indigenous, People of Colour
-recognizes all people of colour face systemic and interpersonal discrimination
-impacted by racial injustices
White Privilege
White individuals have greater access to power and resources than BIPOC individuals
-unquestioned and unearned advantages/ opportunities
-benefits people get simply due to being white
Diversity captures
