What is the treatment for antepartum emergencies?
ABC’s
Place a sanitary pad over the vaginal opening
Treat for shock
Transport on her side
Ask patient when last menstrual period began
What are the findings for Abruptio Placenta?
Abdominal pain
Vaginal bleeding
Unique:
Uterine Contractions
Abdominal Tenderness on palpation
Signs of hypovolemic shock
Note: bleeding may not be visible if blood cannot exit uterus
What are the findings for Placenta Previa?
Predisposing factors
Multiparty
Age 35 or older
Previous Placenta Previa
History of Vaginal bleeding
Bleeding after intercourse
Unique:
3rd trimester painless vaginal bleeding
What are the findings for Ruptured Uterus?
Vaginal bleeding
Unique:
Tearing, severe abdominal pain
Signs of hypovolemic shock
Cessation of uterine contractions
Ability to palpate the infant in the abdominal cavity
What are the findings for Ectopic Pregnancy?
Predisposing factors
Previous ectopic pregnancy
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Adhesions from Surgery
Tubal Surgery
Intrauterine Device use
Assessment findings
Vaginal Bleeding
Unique:
Poorly localized pain that becomes sudden and sharp
Abdominal pain radiating to the shoulders
Bloating
Signs of shock
Discoloration around the navel
What are the findings for Supine Hypotensive Syndrome?
Dizziness or light headedness
Decrease in blood pressure
Tachycardia
Pale, cool, clammy skin
