Define Email
Email is shortcut for electronic mail and can also be written as e-mail. It was one of the first services available over the internet
Why is email so popular?
Because of 3 things:
- Scope
- Cost
- Convenience
How many parts does an email address have?
3 parts:
- Username
- Separator
- Domain name
Define Username
it can be anything from a users full name to an abbreviation or nickname
Define the Separator
It’s the @ symbol that separates the username and the third part of the address
Define Domain name
it identifies the location of the mail server
What can email address not have?
Spaces
Whats an email client?
It’s when you click on an email address that identifies with an email link and an email program opens up.
How does Email travel?
it is sent through several computers until it reaches a mail server and stored there until the recipient of your message requests their email be sent to them.
What is SMTP?
It’s simple mail transfer protocol and is for outgoing mail
What is POP?
Post office Protocol and is for incoming mail uses
What is IMAP?
It’s Internet message Access Protocol and is also for incoming mail uses
what else is email?
its a platform independent or cross platform meaning you can exchange email messages with user who have different computer systems or email software
What’s email Clients?
its an email program
What is Stand-Alone Email programs?
things like microsoft outlook and more for school or office
What is a Web-Based Email
More private. Microsoft and Google are among may websites that offer free web-based email
How do you set up an email client?
You need provide certain info, such as POP and STMP Servers, account name and password
How do you set up a web-based email account?
the only info you need to supply is certain personal data needed to obtain your email address
