Module 4 Lesson 1 Flashcards
why did early cultures keep track and observe the celestial phenomena?
to record the passage of time:
this helped mark when summer and winter was so that know which time is best to build crops. they used stone hedges and aligned them with stars to mark theese events.
planting and harvesting of agriculture and forecasting of weather::
they used the sun to figure out what time was best to plant and harvest.
the weather and sun told them what season it is.
navigation:
observed the position of the celestial bodies (sun, moon, etc) to know where they are.
the suns poisition in the day time can direct a person.
Analyse the costs, benefits and non-benefits of space exploration.
the cost for space exploration can be very expensive which is a disadvantage to space exploration.
but the benefits of the space exploration include
more inventions being created. as there are alot of inventions orginally designed for the space program that is now used by any ordinary person. (ex: cordless drill)
advancing in scientific knowledge
why do you think we should learn about astronmy?
we should learn astronomy to better understand where we came form. and to explore the world around us to have a better understanding
List at least three space spinoffs and describe their impact on human lives.
cordless drill. used to extract rock samples from the moon. it is now used for building and construction
memory foam. theese were made to withstand the impact of landing. it is now used for airplane cusion, football helmets and so on
cordless vaccum. to extract rock samples from the moon. it is now used for cleaning.
Space blanket was originally used to avoid a swing in body temperatures. Now they are used to reduce heat loss from a person’s body.
Explain the importance of: Teloscopes Satellites Space Stations Astronauts
telescope: used to magnify images of distant objects
satelites: can help make observations for earth, communication and navigation
space stations: it is a testing ground and stepping stone for human space exploration
astronauts: help perform tasks, to help research and expereiment
why should we explore space.
Express your opinion about whether space research should have money devoted to it.
studying what lies beyond earths gives us understanding, oppurtunity to lean and discover
spending money for space research pays off because spending that money leads to highly skilled jobs and advancing technology
what are the international contributations to space?
voyager 1 & 2. launched to study jupiter and saturn.
pioneer 10 & ll. mission was to fly past jupiter and continue onto the outer solar system
Explain how space research has had an impact on our daily lives.
space research has had an impact on your daily lives because space research has allowed faster communication, safety through dangerous weather warning, improved medical equipment and so on!
this is impactfull to our daily lives as this all helps us.
describe one of canadas contributions to the space program and the role that it played in furthering our understanding of space
(MAYBE ADD A DIFFERENT THING THAT CANADA MADE)
one of Canada constributation was the Canadarm.
the Canadarm helped deploy and manoeuvre payloads and helped build the international
space station.
it played a further role in understanding the space station as it was used to study the
chemical makeup of the earths middle atmosphere which builds a further understanding of
space.
what are everday products that were disigned for the space program? their orginal use and what they are used for know
treadmill. their original uses were for astronauts to exercise in space. This is because they
wanted to prevent astronauts from having a decreased bone density and muscle atrophy.
treadmills are currently used for exercises in gyms.
camera phone was invented by nasa to take pictures of their space travels. it is currently
used to take pictures of people, places, etc.
who is Chris Austin Hadfield?
he was a canadian astrnaut who was the first canadian to walk in space. he helped install the canadarm 2
what is constellation
group of stars that form a shape of a pattern
https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=what%20is%20constellation
the contents of our solar system is best described as…
1 star, 8 planets, their moons aand a asteroid belt
which star is used in navigation to find the north
polaris
reminder: comets never enter the earths atmosphere……
