Module 2 Lesson 1 Flashcards
what are the part of the sun?
chromosphere photosphere core corona convective zone radiative zone solar promineces solar flare
look at a labled picture of the sun
look at a labled picture of the sun
draw and label the sun
go on notes to see picture
what are the suns atmospheres?
chromosphere (inner atmosphere)
corona (solar atmosphere that is gleaming white)
how does the sun make energy?
the sun is make out of hydrogen atoms. under extreme temperature and pressures the suns core, hydrogen atoms fuse together to make helium atoms
this process is called nuclear fusion and it releases massive amount of energy which is how the sun gets its energy
how much of the suns radiation is abosrbed in earth?
how much of the suns radiation is reflected?
70% is abosrbed
30% is reflected.
what is a sunspot?
darker, cooler areas vvisible on the suns photosphere
look at a picture of sun spot on notes
what is a solar prominence?
a solar prominence is a slow, low energy ejection of gas that travels through thr corona.
what is a solar flare
a solor flare releases large amounts of gas and charged particles into space
they are fouund in active regions near sunspots.
what is a solar wind?
a solar wind is a steady stream of particles (electrons and protons) emeited by the sun)
what is electromagnetic radiation
Electromagnetic radiation is a form of energy that includes radio waves, microwaves, X-rays and gamma rays
what emits em radiation?
what reflects em radiation?
all stars including the sun emit em radiation
planets reflect em radiation
em waves travel at the…
speed of light
what are a few examples of em waves?
radio waves, microwaves, uv rays and gamma rays
where does the sun gets its energy?
the sun is made out out of hydrogen atoms. under extreme temperatures and pressures of the suns core, hydrogen atoms fuse together to make helium atoms
this process is called nuclear fusion which then releases massive amounts of energy.
