When is water pure?
Water in its natural state is NEVER pure , even rainfall absorbs gases and dust from the atmosphere

Generally surface water are SOFT and underground waters are HARD it’s depend on the ground the water comes in contact with
There are two types of hardness what are they?
Temporary and permanent
What is temporary hard water?
It’s certain types of rock such as limestone that are devolved into the water but can be removed by boiling the water above 55’c
Y is the hardness removed from the water when heated?
It’s due to the fact that the co2 is removed from the water on heating just as air in fresh water systems, the lime scale loses its adhesion to the water without the co2 present
How will temporary hard water effect plumbing?
Co2 loss happens in in heating systems and when temporary hard water is present it causes scaling and FURRING of hot water pipes and boilers

Fur deposits can reducer he efficiency of the system so that more fuel must be used to heat the water and This makes the system more expensive to run
Kettling explain ??
Letting occurs when water trapped between the boiler and the lime scale boils and bubbles of steam force their way out to cooler water collapsing very noisy and its sound like a kettle prior to boiling
Reduce boiler life explain?
Fur can in some cases fill the waterways of boilers that water can’t come in contact with the boiler walls to heat the water therefore the boiler will get too hot and burn through
Reduce pipe bore explain?
Fur encrustation reduce the bore of the pipe so that water cannot circulate easily this can block pipes
Permanent hard water explain?
If the water passes through a certain type on rocks such as sandstone it will not dissolve when heated like temporary hard water,
Removal of permanent hard water?
It can not be removed by heating it can however be chemically removed by addition of washing soda or by using water softener, this will not be suitable for drinking but ok for everything else
Hard water dis advantages?
It’s difficult to get a lather with soap, it causes grey scum, it can cause blocked pores , dulls cutlery
What is the chemical properties of water?
The invisible chemical properties of water vary and are not so easily recognised as the physical ones such as silt etc,

No scale no staining, no scumming, easy form lather, therefore good for washing and. Cleaning
