What are the two main groups sanitary appliances are divided into?
Waste appliance and soil appliances
What are waste appliances??
These appliances provide life sustaining water and aid in food preparation and maintain bodily hygiene and cleanliness everyone needs basic plumbing to stay alive
Name the waste appliances?
Kitchen/utility sink, utensil/vegetable sink , the washing machine, the dishwasher, the wash basin , the bath , the shower , the steam shower , the bidet , drinking fountain, fridges
Why is sanitation system so important?
The importance of a well designed system can not be underestimated, sanitary ware together with above and below ground drainage system forms the most vital and necessary component of any dwelling house or building
What are the soil appliances?
The toilet (wc) urinal, slop sink, bed pan washer
What are the properties of sanitary appliances?
1) durable/) must not absorb water 3) resistant to corrosion 4) simple in outline dirt can’t gather 5) smooth surfaced inside and out 6) water must drain naturally to the outlet
What is the metal group of sanitary ware?
Stainless steel , vitreous enamel breaded steel , v. E cast iron
What is the ceramic group in sanitary ware?
Vitreous China , v e fireclay, v e stoneware
What is the plastic group sanitary ware?
Fiver glass grp, acrylic plastic
Where are cast iron mostly used?
Baths are commonly made of it shower trays and flushing cisterns but have been superseded by the use of plastic
Talk about vitreous enamelled pressed steel ?
Also used in baths and shower trays it’s a cheaper material but won’t last as long as cast iron
What makes the stainless steel toilets so popular?
It can have a clean pleasant appearance, it’s non corrosive, it’s hard wearing, it has no enamel surfaces to chip, it’s easily cleaned, not so easy to break
Ceramic means a substance made by firing clay name the forms of pottery?
Fireclay, stoneware , vitreous China
Explain about fireclay and stoneware and where used ?
They are very strong and heavy and are used in factories and schools most commonly
What is vitreous China?
It is a special type of earthenware which as a result of high firing temperature will not absorb water
