Module 2 Flashcards
What does the area under the line in a velocity vs time graph represent?
the displacement
How do you know when a thrown object in the presence of gravity reaches maximum height?
when the objects velocity is 0
What will the velocity of a thrown object in the presence of gravity be when it reaches the height from which it was thrown?
it will be equal and opposite to it’s initial velocity.
What is reaction time?
The time elapsed between recognizing an event and reacting to it.
What is air resistance?
The drag that air produces on objects traveling through it
How is acceleration due to gravity determined?
It is independent of the nature of the object experiencing free fall, as long as the object has mass.
What is the acceleration due to gravity for objects falling near the surface of the earth?
9.8 m/sec sq (32 ft/sec sq)
What is free fall?
The motion of an object when it is falling solely under the influence of gravity.
What is terminal velocity?
The velocity a falling object has when, due to air resistance, it’s acceleration is reduced to 0. This is the maximum velocity of a falling object subject to air resistance can achieve.
