-Prodromal: mild fever, macules, papules, vesicles, pustules, scabs
- Incubation: 2-3 weeks
- contagious: 6 days after rash. Isolate until all lesions are dry
- Trim fingernails to prevent scratching
Calamine lotion may reduce itching
Airborne isolation precautions
S+S, incubation period, length contagious, nursing interventions of Rubella (German Measles)
- Mild fever, cough, cold, enlarged glands, rose colored rash
- 2-3 weeks
- until rash fades (5days)
- Symptomatic tx &comfort measures
Avoid exposing woman in early mths of preg – can cause fetal anomalies
Droplet precautions
S+S, incubation period, length contagious, nursing interventions of Rubeola (Measles)
- Fever, cough, conjunctivitis Koplik spots, maculopapular rash
- 1-2 weeks incub.
- 4 days before to 5 days after rash appears
- Symptomatic care; Provide quiet activities
Airborne isolation
Measures to reduce eyestrain; detailed oral care; Avoid use of soap

- Persistent high fever that disappears when rash appears
- 2 weeks incubation
- until rash fades
- Rest & quiet
Teach parent temp-reducing techniques & prevention of seizures
Use standard precautions

- Fever, headache, swollen parotid gland, jaw pain
- 14-21 days incub.
- until swelling subsides
- Encourage fluids, apply ice compresses to neck for comfort; Droplet precautions(if hospitalized; Avoid citrus & spices that stimulate salivary flow
S+S, incubation period, length contagious, nursing interventions of Infectious Mononucleosis
- Low grade fever, malaise, jaundice, enlarged spleen
- 2-6 weeks
- May return to school when fever and swallowing are normal (may be contagious for 3+ months)
- Rest & supportive tx

Contact sports avoided until liver & spleen lab tests normal
