HEPATIC PHASE
Phases of Fetal Hemopoiesis which occurs in the yolk sac (2nd week AOG) -
MESOBLASTIC PHASE
A stage of Fetal Hemopoiesis which occurs in the bone marrow (4th month AOG)
MYELOID PHASE
Hematogenous and active and found in bones of all newborn
RED BONE MARROW
A reserve hemopoietic tissue found in adults. Used for fat storage
YELLOW BONE MARROW
The first identifiable cell of the granulocyte series
MYELOBLAST
Later stages of metamyelocyte. Nucleus is more indented, “sausage shaped”
JUVENILE, BAND or STAB CELLS
A clear yellow fluid without fibrinogen and clotting factors
SERUM
Homogenous and slightly alkaline fluid which has an important role in coagulation, temp. regulation, respiration, regulation of blood pH and fluid balance
PLASMA
Biconcaved organelle which exhibits Rouleaux Formation
ERYTHROCYTES
An increase over the normal values (above 12,000) of Leukocytes
LEUCOCYTOSIS
A decrease (below 5,000) in the value of Leucocytes
LEUCOPENIA
Increases in number during bacterial (pus-forming) infections
NEUTROPHILS
Increases in number during allergic conditions and parasitic infections
EOSINOPHILS
Increases in number during certain inflammatory conditions of the skin, hay fever or asthma
BASOPHILS
