Module 1 Flashcards

1
Q

VCPR

A

A VCPR is important because in Canadian drug regulations it is against them to dispense prescription drugs without having knowledge of the patient to whom you are dispensing the drug. This includes the RVT and reception team as well and is not limited to solely the DVM.

Q

law difference between companion animal and livestock

A

VPCR in lifestock medicine is different as realities of time and expenses are not the same as companion animal. For livestock the vet must have a working relationship with their client and be familiar with the operation of the farm, have visited the animals in periodic intervals

Q

controlled drug vs prescription vs over the counter

A

Controlled drugs have extra regulations along with them, narcotics, targeted substances
General reference Pr (prescription), C (controlled), T/C (targeted substance), N (narcotic), You can tell a drug is controlled by searching in the controlled drug and substances act, by checking the label on the original packaging if it has any of these ( C, N (narcotic), T/C (targeted substance)), if it has a pr it is not likely controlled, check the provincial veterinary college association, check the provincial drug schedules
