avoid gas forming veggies, can be used for long periods
soft diet
diet low in residue, fiber, easy to digest and soothing to intestines
avoids acidic, spicy, fried foods, alcohol and with caffeine
bland diet
uses of bland diet
heart burn, vomiting, gas and ulcer, peptic ulcer, dyspepsia, cant cure but can manage
referred to as dental soft or mechanically altered diet
mechanical soft diet
limit the amounts of dietary fiber, fruits and veggies cannot be digested
must have two cups of milk per day
residue restricted diet
diet that is for difficulty in swallowing; results from neurological, mechanical, structural or behavioral condition
dysphagia diet
caloric needs of dysphagia diet
30-35 kcal/kg body weight
purpose of dysphagia diet
provide adequate energy while preventing malnutrition, choking, aspiration, pneumonia and dehydration
for patient who gets tired when chewing, have missing teeth or sore mouth; severely reduced oral preparatory stage abilities.
NDD L1: Dysphagia Pureed
cohesive, MOIST, semi solid that require some chewing ability; soft-textured and moist
NDD L2: Dysphagia Mechanically Altered
soft solid, which required more chewing ability; prepared without blenderizing or pureeing; excludes crunchy, sticky, very hard foods
NDD L3: Dysphagia Advanced
help maintain hydration; provides important electrolytes such as sodium and potassium; 600-900 kcal per day
