What are the body systems that could be effected during an allergic reaction??
Integumentary (skin)- hives, itching, flushing, swelling and angioedema
Cardio-Vascular- increased HR, decrease BP, syncope, decreased LOC, hypoxemia (low SPO2)
Respiratory- shortness of breath, wheeze, cough, stridor
GI- cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarhhea
Urticaria ALONE is an indication for EPI? True or FALSE?
F A L S E ! because for EPI you need 2 or more body systems affected required !!!!
Should you always give Benadryl after EPI?
YES. DiphenhydraMINE administration should always follow administration of EPI as outlined in the medical directive!
Should severe symptoms of ONE BODY system be considered as a severe allergic reaction?
YES. Severe symptoms to a single body system (resp system) should be considered a severe allergic reaction!!!
What are the three secondary treatments that should be considered POST EPI adminstration?
- Diphenhydramine - IM/IV
- PRN IV fluids
- PRN salbutamol
