Many of the terms used in psychology and psychiatry are borrowed from medicine
This Model assumes that abnormal behaviour can be diagnosed treated and cured
Medical-biological model

- Assumes that psychological disorders arise from anxiety produced by unresolved conflicts outside a persons awareness
Psychodynamic model

-Assumes that maladjustments occur when a person’s needs are not met
Humanistic model

-Abnormal behaviour is learned from selective reinforcement and punishment
Behavioural model
Focuses on thoughts
-Humans engage in both prosocial and maladjusted behaviour because of their thoughts
Cognitive model

-Assumes that maladjusted behaviours occur within and because of family, community and society
Sociocultural model
Humans evolved in a specific environment
-assumes that maladjustments maybe expressions of behaviour that would once be considered normal in evolutionary history
Evolutionary model
