What is a Cat B Fit-Out and where can I find the definition of what it is?

A

A Cat B fit out is the term used to describe a fully operational workplace that has been designed to a client’s unique specifications to make it their own.

You can find out the description on the British Council For Office (BCO) website/guide and also on most fit-out contractor websites.

A

“Any impediment, prevention or default, whether by act or omission, by the Employer or any of the Employer’s Persons”

If your client has done anything which has impeded or prevented you from completing your works, this is a Relevant Event/Relevant Matter.

A

A Relevant Event is an event on or off site that causes a delay to the completion date of the works.
Examples;
- Architect/Contract Administrator’s instructions
- Deferment of the giving of possession of the site
- Any impediment, prevention or default, whether by act or omission

A

A relevant matter is a matter for which the client is responsible for affecting the progress of the works. This may enable the contractor to claim direct loss and/or expense that has been incurred

A
  1. The contractor must serve notice of a delay to the employer when it becomes ‘reasonably apparent that the progress of the Works or any Section is being or is likely to be delayed
  2. The employer must notify the contractor of his decision within 12 weeks (or sooner if the completion date is less than 12 weeks away) and state the time extension given.
