  1. Check for damaged or bent rims. Rims cannot have welding repairs
  2. Check rims for rust trails that may indicate the rim is loose on the wheel, or lug nuts are loose
  3. Missing clamps, spacers, studs, or lugs are all bad
  4. Mismatched, bent, or cracked lock rings are dangerous

External Inspection: Wheels - Tires (Step #5)

  1. The following must be inspected on every tire
  2. Tread depth: Check for minimum tread depth (4/32” on steering axle tires, 2/32” on other tires)
  3. Retreads/recapped/regrooved not allowed on steering axle of buses
  4. Tire condition: Check that tread is evenly worn and look for cuts or other damage (seperation) to tread or sidewalls. Also, make sure that valve caps and stems are not missing, broken, or damaged
  5. Tire inflation: Check for proper inflation by using a tire guage (No credit for kicking or using a mallet on tires)
  6. If dual tires, check between the tires for damage or foreign objects. Dual tires cannot come into contact with each other or parts of vehicle
  7. Mismatched sizes, radial and bias plys CANNOT be used together

  1. See that hub oil/grease seals and axle seals are not leaking and if wheel has a sight glass, oil level is adequate

    - Axle hanger (center of leaf spring . or main spring)
  4. Air ride suspension should be checked for damage or leaks

A

Approaching vehicle: look for damage, leaning, fresh leaks, check area around vehicle for hazards (people, objects, etc)

  1. Vehicle overview (review last vehicle inspection report)
  2. Check engine compartment (make sure brakes are on)
  3. Start engine and inspect in the cab
  4. Turn off engine and check lights
  5. Do walk-around inspection (LS{door and forward} - Front - RS - RR - R - LS)
  6. Check signal lights
  7. Start the engine and check
