When will the dispatcher assign a FAST Unit?
Upon transmission of a
- 10-60
- 10-66
- 10-75
- 10-76
- 10-77
- 10-80, codes 1,2,3 & 4
Where does the FAST Unit report to?
The FAST Unit shall report to and stage NEAR the ICP w/i VERBAL contact, at a position from which they can be readily deployed.
However, the I/C may assign the FAST Unit to stage at a location OTHER THAN the ICP based on the type of buildings units are operating in.
Is the FAST unit officer required to announce his arrival on the scene?
YES. The officer of the FAST Unit shall announce their arrival on the scene over the HT and report to the ICP, unless otherwise directed.
Regarding FAST Unit responsibilities, what two assignments MUST be given out at roll call?
1) A member assigned the FAST Pak
2) An EFAS trained member assigned to monitor EFAS and the FAST radio.
An EFAS trained member will report to the battalion vehicle and monitor what?
Both the EFAS and the Battalion’s FAST radio for the DURATION of the incident EVEN IF the FAST Unit is given an assignment.
A NON EFAS trained member will report to the battalion vehicle and monitor what?
Monitor the FAST radio board for the DURATION of the incident EVEN IF the FAST Unit is given an assignment.
*Board is mentioned here and not in what a trained member will monitor.
If a FAST Unit operation requires the use of a ladder, what should be avoided?
Avoid re-positioning ladders already in place against a fire building UNLESS it is a LIFE THREATENING situation and a NOTIFICATION is made to the members operating in that area.
When a FAST Unit is dealing with LARGE COMMERCIAL or COMPLEX buildings, what is recommended?
The FAST Unit shall remain INTACT and NOT SPLIT UP when dealing with large commercial or complex buildings.
What is the first thing that the FAST Unit should do upon arrival at the location of the distressed member?
The TRANSMITTING member of the FAST Unit shall
- Depress the EAB on THEIR HT
- Provide the IC with LUNAR
- Then reset THEIR HT EAB (2 seconds)
- Assess FAIR Fire, Air, Immediate medical care and Removal
- Provide additional air supply as needed
- Confirm positive ID
- If possible, depress the EAB of the member in distress
- Notify the IC PRIOR to EAB activation of the distressed member
- If unable to activate EAB, key their mic.*
In addition to normally assigned ladder company tools, the FAST Unit shall report to the ICP with the following equipment?
- PQRST
- FAST Pak
- Search rope
- Stokes basket with long board
- 2:1 rope
