Units scheduled for training must leave from their quarters, with the day tour members, no later than _____? And with the night tour members, no later than _____?
Day tour - No later than 0915 hrs.
Night tour - No later than 1815hrs.
If a unit in a DOUBLE house is scheduled for training and their detail will not arrive in time to leave at either 0915 or 1815hrs., what shall be done?
The unit shall have the ADJOINING unit in quarters supply the detail and leave for training at the appropriate time. The adjoining unit will await the detail.
How many FF’s does a Rescue or Squad company require to start the tour?
Ensure that there are AT LEAST FOUR Rescue Trained FF’s (RTF) at the start of the tour.
If a Rescue or Squad company has FOUR RTF and a detail is required to provide the FIFTH FF, the order of preference for such detail shall be what?
1) Rescue/Squad company w/ GREATER THAN five FF’s
2) An experienced FF (GREATER THAN five years seniority), from a SOC SLC w/ GREATER THAN five FF’s,
3) An experienced FF (GREATER THAN five years seniority) from ANY UNIT with surplus staffing.
If Rescue/Squad Company’s staffing falls below ____, appropriate staffing will be provided, with the EXCEPTION of O.T.
Five (4,3,2 or 1)
If the Rescue/Squad company drops below ______ and staffing cannot be equalized be details from other Rescues or Squads to bring it to three RTF, the company should?
- Below three (2 or 1)
- The company should be placed OOS for the remainder of the tour.
When a member is detailed to the quarters of another FH, when is it permissible to walk?
If members are detailed to a quarters WITHIN ONE MILE or APPROXIMATELY 20 blocks of their assigned quarters, walking is considered an acceptable method of traveling to the detailed quarters.
When does a member NOT have the option of walking to another quarters?
Members who are detailed to another quarters, MORE THAN one mile from their assigned quarters, DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION OF WALKING.
What is a REDUCED STAFFED unit?
A REDUCED STAFFED unit is a Ladder, Rescue or Squad company with FOUR firefighters.
Who shall determine which outside position (OVM/ROOF) shall be staffed when a company becomes REDUCED STAFFED?
The COMPANY OFFICER shall determine which position shall be staffed.
This decision shall be based in part on the unit’s RESPONSE AREA.
What shall the company officer transmit to the dispatcher when a REDUCED STAFFING company is responding to alarms?
“We are responding with FOUR firefighters.”
Ex., “L-2 to Manhattan, we are responding with four firefighters.”
NO OTHER TERMINOLOGY SHALL BE USED TO DESCRIBE STAFFING LEVELS OVER THE DEPARTMENT RADIO!
What shall the officer transmit if he/she is having difficulty getting the message to the dispatcher DUE TO HEAVY RADIO TRAFFIC whether they are responding with four firefighters or responding UNDERSTAFFED?
The Officer shall transmit an “URGENT” to the dispatcher to ensure the message is heard.
NO OTHER TERMINOLOGY SHALL BE USED TO DESCRIBE STAFFING LEVELS OVER THE DEPARTMENT RADIO!
If the necessity exists, is the Officer permitted to re-assign the position of the outside FF (OVM to ROOF or ROOF to OVM)?
Yes. Upon arrival, if the necessity exists, the Officer may reassign the position of the outside FF (OVM to ROOF or ROOF to OVM).
Notify the IC and units operating of the unstaffed position.
When will an additional Ladder Company (ABOVE the FAST truck) be assigned to a 10-75?
When BOTH of the two INITIALLY assigned Ladder Companies report responding with FOUR FF’s.
* The additional Ladder Company shall be the 3rd Ladder Company and
the 4th Ladder Company shall be designated the FAST Truck.*
What is an UNDERSTAFFED unit?
An UNDERSTAFFED unit is ANY unit (Engine, Ladder, Squad or Rescue) staffed with LESS THAN FOUR (3,2 or 1) FF’s.
