Mixing With Venue Flashcards
Explain the ‘L-R plus Mono’ main bus configuration. (3)
Commonly used for general sound reinforcement an music applications.
Two speaker clusters (left/right), with no center cluster.
Mono bus (‘C-M’ on console) typically used to drive sub channel or used as separate output for down fills, front fills, etc.
Explain the ‘L-C-R’ main bus configuration. (3)
Commonly used in theatrical settings or mobile/broadcast applications.
In theatrical applications, PA commonly includes large center cluster of speakers, primarily carrying voice, while left/right clusters are used mainly for music/sfx.
Broadcast applications typically require discrete L-C-R bussing, so center-panned signals appear only on the C output.
What happens to the system when changing between main bus configurations?
This action forces the VENUE software to completely restart. This will interrupt audio.
What is ‘Center Divergence’?
Controls how much a signal is sent to the center cluster when a signal is panned towards center.
Why is it important to set the Center Divergence properly for L-C-R mixing confirgurations?
To ensure the C bus is heard through the PA.
What is the default Center Divergence setting?
100%.
Are variable groups available on SC48 using software versions prior to VENUE 3.0?
No.
Will audio be interrupted when changing Aux/Group bus configurations?
Yes.
Describe some common uses for Groups with VENUE.
Like-channels e.g. Drums.
Phase-coherent parallel processing.
Subgroups.
How can you view the members of a selected Group?
From the ‘Members’ list when the Group bus channel is selected on screen.
Can you assign channels to Variable Groups using the ‘Bus Assigns’ witches?
No.
What output destinations are available for Groups? (4)
Stage audio outputs.
FOH (local) audio outputs.
MADI outputs (not available on SC48)
Pro Tools recording inputs.
How would you go about routing a Group to a hardware output? (6)
- Go to ‘Patchbay’ page.
- Click ‘Outputs’ sub-tab.
- Click ‘Grp’ tab to left of channel grid.
- Click on corresponding Output tab.
- Position cursor in channel grid next to Group and under output connection.
- Click to assign output routing.
What are some typical uses for Aux busses in VENUE? (2)
Effects sends.
Monitor mixes.
Describe the process for routing the Direct Output for a selected Aux or Group output. (9)
- Go to ‘Outputs’ page.
- Target Aux/Group bus.
- Click on Direct Out jump-to button.
- Click designated I/O tab.
- Position cursor in channel grid next to Aux/Group bus and under available output.
- Click to assign output routing.
- Select pickoff point from pop-up menu.
- Click ‘In’ button to turn Direct Output on.
- Adjust level.
