Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Disease - Key Points Flashcards
Most common cause of mitral stenosis
rheumatic MV disease
clinical presentation of mitral stenosis
CHF, R sided HF, afib, stroke
PEx of mitral stenosis
loud S1, opening snap, diastolic rumble
Tx of mitral stenosis
- meds: beta blockers, diuretics, anticoag
- intervention: balloon valvuloplasty vs MV replacement
Most common cause of mitral regurgitation
mitral valve prolapse (secondary occurs in pts with severe LV dysfn and dilation)
clinical presentation of mitral regurgitation
CHF sx
PEx of mitral regurgitation
holosystolic murmur at the apex radiating to the axilla
Tx of mitral regurgitation
- meds: diuretics, afterload reduction
- surgery: MV repair > replacement
Most common cause of tricuspid regurgitation
functional valve disease related to RV pressure/vol overload
PEx of tricuspid regurgitation
holosystolic murmur along the sternal border that increases with inspiration
clinical presentation of tricuspid regurgitation
dyspnea, edema, ascites, liver dysfn
Tx of tricuspid regurgitation
- meds: diruetics
- surgery: most common indication is TV repair at the time of the L sided valve surgery
