Mitosis☆☆☆☆ Flashcards
What is cancer
Cancer is an invasive growth caused by abnormal cell division
What are the causes of cancer?
●Inheritance
●radiation
●smoking
●processed foods
3 types of cancer treatments
1.surgery-ro cut it out with a scalpel or lazer
2.chemotherapy-chemical compounds kill the cancer cells or stop their DNA from making new cells, given by injections or tablets
3.Radiotherapy-can use machines injections of compunds and capsules
What are the two parts of the cell cycle
1.interphase——cell growth
2.mitosis——–cell division
How.much time does mitosis take
1 to 2 hours
Three purposes of mitosis
1:Growth
2:repair
3:reproduction
What is cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm
What are the 5 phases of mitosis respectively
1:interphase
2:Prophase
3:Metaphase
4:Anaphase
5:telophase
Interphase
DNA in chromatin network duplicates
DNA thickens and becomes visible
Prophase
Centrosome is made of 2 separate centriols.
Fibres form between the centrosome to form a spindle.
Centrosome moves to opposite sides of the cell.
Each chromosome is visible as 2 chromatids joined by a Centromere
Metaphase
The nucleur membrane has disintegrated
Chromosomes line up at the equator of the cell
Each chrimosome is now attached by a centromere
Anaphase
Each chromosome separates into its sister chromatid
Each chromatid is now pulled towards opposite poles of the cell
Telophase
Cytokinesis starts by the cell membrane staring to constrict at the equator of the cell
A nuclear membrane and nucleolus form in each daughter cell
Each daughter cell has the same chromosome as the mother cell
