Biosphere To Ecosystem Flashcards
What is ecology
The study of living organisms. Their are relationship to one another and to the place where they live
What are scientists who study ecology called
Ecologist
What is the biosphere
The part of the Earth where humans and other organisms are able to live
What does the biosphere consist of?
The atmosphere, lithosphere and the hydrosphere
Characteristics of the atmosphere
• Is made up of gases that keep the environment stable.
• has the gases, oxygen ,hydrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapour, and nitrogen.
•helps in respiration ,photosynthesis and filtering the sunlight to protect organisms from harmful or strong sun rays
Characteristics of the hydrosphere
•is the aquatic or water part of the biosphere
•consists of the waters of the oceans(salt water),rivers and lakes (fresh water)
•is the habitate of many aquatic organisms such as fish
Characteristics of the lithosphere
•Is the outside crust of the earth
•is formed of rocks and soil
•is a source of the ions which living organisms need.
What is biotic
Living components such as plants animals and micro organisms
What is Abiotic
Non-living components such as rock, water, gases, wind and sunlight
What is atmosphere
Envelope of gases around the earth
What hydrosphere
All rhe salt and fresh water areas of the earth
What is lithosphere
Rigid outer part of the earth, the crust and the mantle
What are biomes
A geographical region with a characteristic climate ,vegitationand animals suited to an environment e.g deserts, grassland and aquatics
What is ecosystem
Part of the biome where the biotic and abiotic components interact
What is Community
All of the population of different ecosystems in the same place at the same time.
What is an organism
A single form of life
What the types of biomes
Terrestrial and aquatic biomes
Cycle
The continuous movement of materials, such as the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle, through the environment.
What is a marine biome
It is a large, complex ecosystem that is dominated by salt water, which includes oceans, seas, and estuaries.
Producers
Organisms make their own food inside of their bodies. From substances they get from the environment which are also called auto troughs.
Classification of plants
Hydrophytes. - Plants that grow in water example water lillies.
Mesophytes. - Plants that need to moderate supply of water, light and temperature examples mango trees.
Xenophytes. - Plants and grow in very dry regions example cactic
Consumers
Plants that cannot make their own food but have to eat food are classified as consumers or heterotrophs
Decomposers
Organism that get their energy by breaking down dead plants and animal bodies as well as animal wastes.
What are abiotic factors classified as?
Physiographic factors, edaphic factors and physical factors
