mitosis Flashcards
Prophase
the chromosome condenses, getting shorter and fatter and become visible in the nucleus. The nucleuolous disappears , and the membrane starts to break down . A pair of centrioles move to either sides of the cell.
metaphase
spindle fibres attach to chromosome
the chromosomes are lined up at the centre of the cell
Anaphase
centromeres divide into two, and the spindle fibres begin to shorten, this pulls the sister chromatids towards opposite poles of the cell
Telophase
chromatids have reached the poles of the cell.
They are now referred to as chromosomes.
The spindle apparatus breaks down and the nuclear membranes reform.
The chromsomes uncoil back to their chromatin state. The nuclelolus also reappears in each nucleus.
Cytokenesis
the central cell membrane is pulled inwards by the cytoskeleton, this creates a groove or furrow which gradually deepens. Eventually the membrane fuse to form two independent cells. At this stage, cell division by mitosis has finished
