used for depression and generalized anxiety disorders
What are the two SNRI’s?
Venkafaxine and duloxetine
what is the main use of duloxetine? (3)
used for depression and neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia
what is a main unique side effect of venlafaxine?
can increase BP so do not use in in patients with labile or untreated HTN. also dont use in pts with tachyarrythmias
what is a contraindication to use of duloxetine?
liver disease or heavy EtOH use due to liver side effects
What is the MOA of bupropion?
NE-DA reuptake inhibitor
What is a good reason to switch someone to buproprion from an SSRI
untolerable sexual side effects with SSRI
what are three contraindications for use of buproprion?
- seizure d/o
- active eating d/o
- currently taking MAOI
What are two side effects of buproprion?
- increased risk of seizures and psychosis (psychosis from increased DA)
- increased anxiety in some
what is the MOA of trazodone and nefazodone?
Serotonin recpetor agonist and antagonist
What are three conditions trazodone and nefazodone are useful in treating?
- refractory major depression
- major depression with anxiety
- insomnia

- nausea
- dizziness
- orthostatic hypotension
- cardiac arrythmias
- SEDATION

serious liver failure (rare, but dangerous)

alpha-2 receptor agonist
What are two reasons for mirtazapine to be used in a patient and what condition?
- refractory major depression - esp in pts that need to gain weight or having trouble sleeping (elderly pts.)
