what is the MOA for levothyroxine?
A
- provides synthetic T4 hormone

what are the systemic and ocular SE of levothyroxine?
A
- systemic –> hyperthyroidism
- ocular –> pseudotumor cerebri in children

list 2 drugs that are used for erectile dysfunction.
A
- sildenafil (viagra)
- vardenafil

what is the MOA for erectile dysfunction (ED) meds?
A
- cGMP breakdown relaxes vascular smooth muscle in the penis –> ED meds inhibit PDE-5 (enzyme that breaks down cGMP) thereby increasing blood flow to the penis and prolonging the effects of cGMP.

What are the systemic SE of ED meds?
A
- flushing & HA (common)
- priapism (sustained erection) –> required immediate medical attention.

What are the ocular SE of ED meds?
A
- blurred vision
- color changes (cyanopsia common)
- photosensitivity

what is the most serious ocular SE that ED meds can cause?
A
- NAION –> but not strongly supportive.

- it is an alpha-blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in the bladder neck and prostate therby decreasing urinary outflow obstruction in men.
- Also decrease the urge to urinate frequently
