Name some of the MISC drills an aircraft can carry out
VERTREP - Vertical replenishment at sea. AC becomes involved if a long transit between ships/Airfiedl is required
CASEVAC - Casualty evacuation is usually done at short notice and in response to medical emergency or compassionate reason.
Force Protection - Helicopters may be used to enforce a protected zone as an aircraft transits through a restricted shipping area.
Operation AWKWARD - Helicoters may be used to assist as a deterant if in an area of civil unrest.
Disaster relief - Helicopters may be used to provide assistance when an area has suffered a natural or manmade disaster:
- Surveying the disaster area
- Assist in the movement of personell and stores
- Evacuation of casualties
Naval Gunfire Support (NGS) - NGS spotter aircraft calling the fall of the shot to the gunnery unit.
GREEN DECK OPERATIONS - Command may dispense with putting lashings on the aircraft to reduce time on the deck.
SOOTAX - (Senior Officer/Staff Taxi) -
VIPTAX
What are the conditions where Green Deck Ops are not to be applied?
Weapon Loads
Refueling
Defect Rectification
Task re-rolling
Crew Changes
Any other activity that may preclude the aircraft from launching immediately
What are the requirements for Green Deck operations?
The ship must remain steady on the flying course with ‘Green permission to fly light’ on at all times. Whilst at anchor the Green lights is to remain on.
All outstations are to be fully conversant with the procedure and implications of giving a Red light.
The ship is to remain within SHOL and Pitch/Roll limits for landing and take off. Where there are multiple type of aircraft being operated the most restrictive SHOL limits are to be applied.
If any of the above cannot be met than Green Deck Operations are to be cancelled.
