Alimetry Flashcards
The ICAO formulae states what?
1 hpa = 30ft
The pressure increases the lower the aircraft
Wind off pressure, wind off height
Wind on pressure, wind on height
What is aerodrome QNH used for?
Calculating the Transition Level in the vicinity of an Airfield
Calculating Minimum Safe Flight Levels (MSFLs)
Flights in the vicinity of some civil aerodromes, although QFE is normally used for landing.
As a landing datum for some foreign and civil aircraft
On request, it can be passed to military pilots for internal use within the aircraft
What is force QNH?
Force QNH is the lowest QNH forecast for an Operation/Excercise area for a defined period.
It is calculated by a suitably qualified Meto/Forecaster and promulgated to all participating units.
What is QFE?
Corrected barometric pressure for a specified datum
How is the safety altitude calculated?
Highest point around (round up to nearest 100 + 1000ft)
