What does secure mean?
A tactical mission task that involves PREVENTING a unit, facility, or geographical location FROM BEING DAMAGED OR DESTROYED as a result of enemy action
- physical occupation not required
What does seize mean?
To employ combat forces to OCCUPY PHYSICALLY and to CONTROL a designated area
- Must physically occupy the ground
What does clear mean?
A tactical mission task that requires the CDR to REMOVE ALL ENEMY FORCES AND ELIMINATE ORGANIZED RESISTANCE within an assigned area
What does delay mean?
To SLOW the time of arrival of enemy forces or capabilities or alter the ability of the enemy or adversary to project forces or capabilities
What does disrupt mean?
A tactical mission in which a commander INTEGRATES DIRECT AND INDIRECT FIRES, TERRAIN, AND OBSTACLES to upset an enemy’s formation or tempo, interrupt his timetable or cause enemy forces to commit prematurely or attack in piecemeal fashion
What does on order mean?
A mission which the force WILL ACCOMPLISH at a later time; 2nd in priority to any primary mission for planning; include in para 2 of OPORD

What does be prepared mean?
A mission in which the force MAY ACCOMPLISH at a later time; next in priority to any on order mission for planning; not included in para 2 of OPORD

What does destroy mean?
To render the opposing force combat ineffective unless reconstituted
PHYSICAL DESTRUCTION over psychological destruction
What does defeat mean?
Occurs when an enemy force has TEMPORARY or permanently lost the physical means or the will to fight
May or may not entail the destruction of any part of the enemy force
PSYCHOLOGICAL over physical destruction
What does screen mean?
To provide early warning for the main body by maintaining contact w the opposing force
Does not become decisively engaged (loses the ability to maneuver)
Uses R and S OPs w the ability to execute indirect fires on opposing force
Normally w/in indirect fire support range of the main body force
What does guard mean?
To prevent ground observation, direct fire, or surprise attack on the main body force
Can accept decisive engagement
Normally w/in indirect fire support range of the main body
Guard forces may req augmentation to provide sufficient combat power for mission task success

What is the physical domain?
Primary mission area for the obj being represented (air, land, sea)

What is the standard identity?
The relationship of the symbol being represented to friendly forces
Color fill:
- blue
- red
- green
- yellow
- blue: friendly
- red: enemy
- green: neutral
- yellow: UKN
What are modifiers?
- pictorial or alphanumeric representation
- provide additional info about symbol
- further define function/role of mil symbol being displayed
- Inside the frame
What are amplifiers?
- provide additional info about the symbol
- further define the function/role of mil symbol being displayed
- Outside the frame
What are the sectors of framed symbols?
They are split into 3 sections: bottom, middle, top
Top (sector 1)
Middle (main icon)
Bottom (sector 2)
