What is the role of the medical company?
To provide role II medical care to those btn w organic medical platoons. Provide both Role I and II medical treatment on an area support basis to units w/o organic Army Health System AHS assets
What are the types of medical companies?
BSMC: Brigade Support Medical Company
MCAS: Medical Company Area Support
What does the BSMC brigade support medical company do?
Assigned to Brigade Support Battalion; supports a brigade combat team
- Armored BCT (ABCT) - also Armored cav (ARC)
- Stryker BCT (SBCT)
- Infantry BCT (IBCT) inludes light, ABN, AA
What does the MCAS medical company areas support do?
Supports units w/o organic AHS assets
- assigned to med brigade and attached to multifunctional med btn (MMB) in garrison
- may be task organized under a med task force and attached to a Div Sustainment Brigade or Corps Log Task Force for deployment

What is the role of the Prev med section?
Provides advice and consultation in:
- health threat assessment
- force health protection
- environmental sanitation
- epidemiology
- sanitary engineering
- pest management
ID health hazards and recommend corrections
Assist in training BCT soldiers in NBDI prevention
Analyzes and reports med surveillance info
Executes BCT prev med plan under med co CDR (works w BD Surgeon)
How does the prev med section differ between all BSMCs (ABCT, SBCT, IBCT)

What is the role of the behavioral health platoon in med co?
Responsible for assisting CDRs in prevention/controlling operational stress throughout BCT and units assigned in their AOR
Primary functions
- promote pos combat operational stress behaviors
- prevent unnecessary evac through forward tx and RTD
- counseling personnel w personal, behavioral or psychological prob
- collect and record social and psych data

Provides mission command of platoon and platoon attached assets
Directs activities of clearing station and monitor class VIII supplies, blood usage, and inventory
Tracks pts and coordinates evac
Field med assistant acts as platoon ldr in garrison, generally retains position and responsibilities while deployed
What is the function of the treatment platoon medical treatment squad?
Functions
- to reconstitute and reinforce tx squads of BAS
- provide sick call
How long can the treatment platoon medical treatment squad operate independently?
They can operate for 48hrs while separated from their parent unit
