Military Discipline And Conduct Flashcards
What Army Regulation covers Military Discipline and Conduct?
AR 600-20 Chapter 4
Describe military discipline. (4-1)
Military discipline is founded upon self discipline, respect for properly constituted authority, and the embracing of the professional Army Ethic with its supporting individual values. Military discipline is instilled through positive leadership, reinforcing the regulatory standards for personnel, and the training readiness standards for individual and collective tasks, together, resulting in a mental attitude about proper conduct and obedience to lawful military authority.
Be prepared to put this in your own words.
My own words for example: Military discipline consists of self discipline such as staying physically fit, ensuring you present yourself in a professional manner and living the Army Values.
When should courtesies listed in AR 600-25 be rendered to the national colors and national anthem? (4-3)
Courtesies should be rendered regardless if the soldier is off or on duty, in or out of uniform.
What is the leader’s responsibility in ensuring the proper conduct of Soldiers? (4-4)
Whether on or off duty, or in a leave status the leader will ensure all soldiers present a neat, military appearance and take appropriate action consistent within Army regulations, in any case where a Soldier’s conduct violates good order and military discipline.
What are some examples of non-punitive corrective measures? (4-6)
Denial of pass or other privileges, counseling, administrative reduction in grade, administrative reprimands, extra training.
What is one of the most effective non-punitive corrective measures? (4-6)
Extra training or instruction.
Give some examples of extra training or instruction. (4-6)
If Soldiers appear in an improper uniform, they are required to correct it immediately; if they do not maintain their Government housing area properly, they must correct the deficiency in a timely manner. If Soldiers have training deficiencies,
they will be required to take extra training or instruction in subjects related to the shortcoming.
Be prepared to explain this in your own words and give examples in accordance with Army Regulations.
Can a leader order brief physical exercises as an acceptable form of corrective training for minor acts of indiscipline? For example, requiring the Soldier to perform pushups for arriving late to formation. (4-6)
Yes, so long as it does not violate the Army’s policies prohibiting hazing, bullying, and unlawful punishment.
Can corrective measures be taken after normal duty hours? (4-6)
Yes, such measures must assume the nature of training or instruction, not punishment.

The Domestic Violence Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 USC 922), the Lautenberg
Amendment, makes it unlawful for any person to transfer, issue, sell or otherwise dispose of firearms or ammunition
to any person whom he or she knows or has reasonable cause to believe has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime
of domestic violence. It is also unlawful for any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic
violence to receive any firearm or ammunition that has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
This chapter applies to all Soldiers throughout the world, including those in hostile-fire areas.
Sergeant’s note: In your own words, you may say “The Lautenberg Amendment prohibits the issue of weapons or ammunition to persons convicted of a domestic violence crime.”
