Mr Wallace (confederate)
PPTS always teacher
PPT allowed to give electric shock to each wrong memory QU
Increase voltage each time
At 300V MrW= weak heart
315V bang on wall
330V silent
Prompt with sentence ‘you must go on’
Describe Milgrams findings and conclusions
FINDINGS
100% went to 300V
65% to 450V (fatal)
PPTS ‘sweat, tremble’
3 had siezures
14 students predict 3% to 450V
CONCLUSIONS
In right circumstances any obey immoral
German not different.
AO3: WEAKNESS of Milgrams experiment
Promt: PPTS deceived…
P: PPTS deceived as told it was ‘punishment and learning’
E: Milgram actually measured obedience in regards to inflicting pain on learner
E: = no informed consent as unaware of nature of study
I= reduces ethical credibility of study= reputation of being decieptful psychologist+ bad rep for psych
AO3: WEAKNESS of Milgrams Study
Prompt: It was artificial
P: It was artificial, did not reflect everyday aituations= lacked mundane realism
E: in lab= diff to IRL as people asked subtle instructions not to give electric shocks
E: = not helpful finding of obedience for real life
I: = lacks external validity + not applied to real life situations
AO3: Milgram Strength
Prompt: study reliable as seen similar results…
P: Milgrams study is reliable as other studies have had similar results
E: Le Jeu de Mort= docu on reality TV + Milgram relpication. PPTS thought were on pilot wpisode. Paid to give electric shocks to confederates. 80% went to max 460V= identical to Milgram
E: meaning it was valid and consistant study as behavior is almost identical
I: this show M’s results were reliable and accurate in finding how and why people obey
