Midterm Questions Flashcards
If a mutation occurs in your cells affecting your smooth ER, what do you predict will be the result?
You will lose the ability to synthesize phospholipids rendering you unable to form more organelles or plasma membranes. This would shut down growth and prohibit replacement of cells leading to the body falling apart as death will surpass growth in all cells of the body.
A person is locked in a heat chamber, what will happen to their cell membranes as the temperature rises?
-The increase temp will lead to increase fluidity. To counteract this, the cholesterol will become more rigid. The body will attempt to decrease fluidity by making longer acyl tails and less double bonds in attempt to maintain the proper fluidity of the cell membrane.
