midbrain and cerebellum Flashcards
medial lemniscal pathway
located in midbrain, functions: tactile discrimination, kinesthetic sensations, position sensations
spinothalmic pathway
located in midbrain, functions: pain and temperature; crude touch and pressure
cortico-spinal
part of crus cerebri in midbrain; control of skeletal muscles of body
cortico-bulbar
part of the crus cerebri in midbrain; control muscles above the neck
cortico-bulbar
part of crus cerebri in midbrain; coordinates muscular activities
substantia nigra
production house of dopamine - affects control, cognitive function, and emotional limbic system
red nucleus
coordination of sensorimotor information
input of red nucleus
cerebellum via superior cerebellar peduncle as well as from primary motor cortex
output of red nucleus
sends to spinal cord (rubrospinal fibers) to Vlith nucleus and reticular formation (rubrobulbar fibers)
midbrain at the level of pretectal area - identifiable features
(crab looking cut of midbrain with small superior colliculus)
Crus cerebri, substantia nigra, red nucleus
midbrain at level of superior colliculus - identifiable features
(prominent superior colliculus)
midbrain at level of inferior colliculus - identifiable features
(prominent grey matter around cerebral aqueduct + prominent superior cerebellar peduncle and decussation)
pretectum (pretectal area)
in charge of pupil constriction
superior colliculus
in charge of visual orientation reflex and eye movements
Marcus Gunn pupil
afferent pupillary defect L1 >L3
