micturation Flashcards
urine formed in the
nephrons
from nephrons, urine drains into
papillary ducts in renal papillae of the renal pyramids
where does urine drain into after papillary ducts
cup-like structures called major and minor calyces
after major calyces where does urine drain into
renal pelvis then out to bladder through ureters
discharge of urine from urinary bladder is
micturation
what happens when volume in bladder exceeds 00-400ml
stretch receptors in bladder stimluated and send nerve impulses to spinal cord
describe micturation reflex in infants
contraction of detrusor muscle, relaxation of internal urethral sphincter
what contracts/relaxes during micturation
bladder/detrusor muscle contracts
both interla & external urethral sphincters relax
whats the difference in the sensory impulses that bring about the micturation reflex in adults & children
children reflex transmits nerve impulses to spinal cord
adults reflex transmits nerve impulses to brain - creates conscious awareness
adult can consciously inhibit what re micturation
reflex contraction of bladder wall/relaxation of internal sphincter, and control external urethral sphincter & pelvic floor muscles
