Microscopy Flashcards
1
Q
How do light microscopes work?
A
They use light and lenses to form an image of a specimen and magnify it. Let us see individual cells and large subcellular structures, like nuclei.
2
Q
How do electron microscopes work?
A
They use electrons to form an image.
3
Q
What are some differences between light and electron microscopes?
A
Electron has higher magnification, a higher resolution - thus a sharper image, and lets us see tinier things (ribosomes + plasmids) and small things in more detail.
4
Q
Formula for magnification?
A
Magnification = image size / real size
