Microscopy Flashcards
Identify the parts of a microscope, How it works and The terms used in microscopy
What is a microscope?
This is a device or instrument used to enlarge images of small objects.
List seven parts of a complete microscope
- Base
- Light source ( Mirror )
- Stage
- Microscope slide
- Object lenses
- Eyepiece lenses
What is an Object?
This is the real object or sample.
What is an Image?
This is the image produced when we look down at a microscope.
What is Magnification?
This is how much times larger an image is compared the the object.
What is resolution?
This is a measure or how detailed an image is.
What is the function of coarse and fine focusing knobs in a microscope?
This is used to get the image in focus.
Describe how a microscope works
Light hits the mirror bouncing upwards through the stage onto the microscope slide onto the object then onto the objective lenses, the eyepiece captures this image and the image is seen by the eyes. The idea of this is to spread out the light rays.
What is the function of the objective lenses in a microscope?
To adjust the Magnification of the object.
What is the function of the mirror in the microscope?
To reflect light onto the stage. It acts as a light source.
Note:
The higher the resolution the clearer or more focused the image appears.
