Kingdoms of Life Flashcards
To further understand the kingdoms of Life and their differences
What are the five main kingdoms of Life?
Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protists, Bacteria
What are Eukaryotes?
Eukaryotes are organisms made out of eukaryotic cells
List 2 characteristics of Eukaryotes.
- Contain Nucleus
- DNA in the form of chromosomes
List the Eukaryotes among the 5 kingdoms of life.
Animals, Plants, Fungi and Protists
What are Prokaryotes?
Prokaryotes are organisms that are made up of prokaryotic cells
List the Prokaryotes among the 5 kingdoms of Life.
Bacteria
What are some characteristics of Prokaryotes?
- Contain Nucleoid
- DNA in the form of strands
List a difference between animals and plants.
Animals are heterotrophs meaning they can not produce their own food and feed off other organisms while, Plants are autotrophs meaning they can produce their own food.
What are some features of Bacteria?
- They are Prokaryotes.
- They are unicellular.
- They can be found almost
everywhere. - Some can produce their own
food but most depend on
other organisms for nutrients. - Some can cause diseases.
What are some features of Fungi?
- They can either be Multicellular
or Unicellular. - They are saprotrophs.
- Can’t photosynthesise.
- Some fungi can be considered
pathogens.
Outline some features of Animals.
- There are more than 5 million
species of animals. - They are multicellular.
- They reproduce sexually.
- They are heterotrophs.
What are some features of Protists?
- They are unicellular.
- They can photosynthesise (
contain chloroplast). - Consume other organisms to
gain energy. - Few are considered pathogens.
List some features of Plants.
- They are multicellular.
- They are autotrophs.
- They can photosynthesise.
- They reproduce both asexually
and sexually.
