Microscopes and Magnification Flashcards
What is an estimate?
An educated guess
Why do we use estimates?
Save time
What is magnification?
The process of enlarging the physical appearance/image of something
How do you find magnification? (formula)
M = I/A (Magnification = image size/ actual size)
How do you find the image size? (formula)
I = A X M
Image size = Actual size x Magnification
How do you find the actual size? (formula)
A = I/M
Actual size = Image size/Magnification
What is the resolution?
The ability to distinguish between two points as separate structures
What happens if you have a low resolution?
The image is blurry
What happens if you have a high resolution?
The image is clear
Easy to see
When was the electron microscope invented?
1930’s
What does an electron microscope use?
It uses beams of electrons
Passes through through a specimen to build up an image
What is the maximum magnification of an electron microscope?
x2000000
What is the minimum magnification of an electron microscope?
x0.0000002
Why are electron microscopes good/used?
Allow us to see cells and microorganisms in better detail
