Microscopes Flashcards
CT
Computed tomography
Low dosage x-ray beams are passed through body at angles, often a dye is injected in tissue to see better
X-ray
Pictures of internal body structures- hearts, lungs best for bones
SEM
Scanning electron microscope
Electrons bounce off surface of specimen creating a 3-D image
Y called X-ray
Because person who created it didn’t under stand it, used the x because in math x is used as an unknown value
Name microscopes that living can be seen under
MRI, compound, dissecting, x-ray
Which knob u use first? Y?
Gross adjustment knob, because that knob helps you see the image, because it gets you in the field of view so u need to gross adjust it
Which way slide move compound
Opposite direction
Slide move dissecting
Same direction
Letters upside down or right side up looking through dissecting . Y?
They look right side up cause dissecting has 2 microscopes
3 , most important for carrying microscope
Carry w/ both hands one on bottom one on arm
Walk don’t run
Hold straight up parallel to the floor
Differences and similarities of microscopes
Both use lights on bottom, dissecting 1 over objective one under and a knob to adjust the light. Compound has iris, which controls the amount of light that shines through. Compound has 4x-100x where the dissecting has 1x-4x.
How to get total magnification
Multiply magnification of the ocular to the magnification of the objectives to get it
When looking through low power objective through compound more of object or less then when looking through high power
You see more cuz when in high power moving object closer to eye so you see more details
What happens to light under high and low lens
Low it is much brighter
High much darker cuz moving object closer to eye so filling up the space for light
Derivation of any word
Latin, Greek, old English and old french
