Q

What is an electron microscope?

A

It uses electrons to view an object and it can magnify objects up to x10 million. You can see objects in cells more clearly and in far more detail than a light microscope.

Q

How do you calculate magnification?

A

real size

1) measure image in mm.
2) multiply by 1000 to get the measurement in micrometres.
3) if the image has a scale bar the use that to find the answer.

Q

How do you use a light microscope safely?

A
  • start with the lowest power objective under the eyepiece.
  • clip the slide securely on stage.
  • adjust the light source ( mirror ) so the light goes through the slide.
  • use the focusing wheel to focus on the slide.
  • move the slide so its in the middle of the view.
  • if you need move a higher power objective into position above the slide.
  • use the focusing wheel to put the slide back into focus.
