a. Gram-negative bacilli, often pleomorphic
b. Anaerobe - The most prevalent anaerobic bacteria (normal flora & pathogen) – Normal microbiota of Gut and Oropharynx
c. Etiologic agents of:
(1) Aspiration pneumonia
(2) Empyema (about 30%)
(3) Lung abscess
(4) Deep wound abscesses, especially when contaminated with endogenous material
d. Laboratory: Opportunistic anaerobes – require special handling
