What is a pressure group?
Groups, usually with a single issue or area aiming to help or hinder it.
What are the 2 types of pressure group?
Sectional (focus of section of society) and Causal (focus on one interest or cause)
What are methods of pressure groups?
Lobby, Publishing reports, Publicity campaigns, Public demonstrations, Publicity stunts, Civil disobedience, Strikes, Celebrities, Digital campaigns.
Whats the difference between Insider and Outsider status?
Insider have access to government officials and decision- makers, Outsider do not have close government links and may conduct attention seeking activities.
What are reasons for pressure group success?
Insider status, Wealth, Large membership, Organisation, Expertise and Celebrity endorsement.
What are reasons for pressure group failure?
Contradicting government policy (7 day NHS 2015, BMA failed to stop it), Government resist pressure (majority for iraq 2003 vs stop the war), Countervailing power(campaigning against other pressure groups) and Group acts against or alienate the public (Coalition for marriage against gay marriage).
