Metallic Structures Flashcards
what are metal structures?
Metal structures are giant structures made of delocalised electrons from the outer shell of every metal atom in the structure. These electrons hold the atoms together in a regular structure due to the strong forces of electrostatic attraction between the positive and negative electrons.

name the properties of metals
Metals have high boiling and melting points, can conduct heat and electricity and can be bent and shaped
what are alloys?
Alloys are a mixture of two or more metals that are created for a specific combination of properties
why are alloys harder?
Alloys are harder because when one metal is mixed with a pure metal the new metal atoms will distort the layers of the metal making it harder for the layers to slide over each other
