Metallic Bonding Flashcards
1
Q
What is metallic bonding?
A
Bonding in all metals. It’s between metal cations and delocalised electrons and forms by the attraction of these two.
2
Q
How do metals conduct electricity?
A
The delocalised electrons are free to move and can carry a charge.
3
Q
In metallic bonding what do the metals have?
A
High m.p/b.p. Strong forces between the delocalised electrons and positive cations which require large amounts of energy to break.
4
Q
Why are metals malleable?
A
Regular arrangement of ions are easily pushed over one another
