What is non cognitivism
Moral judgments express non cognitivist attitudes
Do not make a claim about reality
Not true or false
What is moral realism
The theory that claims that moral judgments are made true or false by objective moral properties that are mind independent
What is error theory
Theory that ethical judgments make claims about objective moral properties but that no such properties exist
Thus moral judgments are cognitive but are all false
What is emotivism
The theory that claims that moral judgments express a feeling or non cognitive attitude, typically approval or disapproval and aim to influence feelings and actions of others
What is prescriptivism
Moral theory that moral judgements are prescriptive ie moral judgments provide commands and recommendations on how to act
What is ethical naturalism
Theory that claims that moral properties are identical with certain natural (psychological) properties
What is ethical non naturalism
Moral properties exist but but they are not natural properties
