Mental disorder definition
Abnormal state of mind (whether continuous or intermitted) charactarised by delusion, disorders of mood, perception, volition or cognition of such a degree that is poses a danger to the health/safety of that person or others OR seriously diminishes the capability of that person to take care of themselves.
Section 109
In a public place we may detain a person if they are behaving in a manner that gives you reasonable belief that they are mentally distressed, and it is desirable in the interest of that person or the public.
May detain up to 6 hours to obtain assessment.

Section 110c
Assist medical practitioner: Entry power to detain person, administer drugs, sedatives and enable them to conduct an assessment or medical examination.
Section 41
Power to assist DAO (Duly Authorised Officer). Entry power to assess patient, detain or transport patient.
Section 122(b)
Use of force - last resort and must be lawful, reasonable & proportionate.
Restricted patient
Subject to a Compulsory Treatment Order, considered a present danger to public.
Special patient
Patients who are detained by way of an court order if they are found to be criminally insane OR unfit to plead OR on remand for physiatric report.
Who can apply for an CTO (compulsary treatment order)
Any person over 18, relatives or doctor.
When can we apprehend and return CTO, Special and Restricted patients to hospital if they have gone AWOL?
CTO - Within 3 months
Special & Restricted - Any time
