- hides feelings/emotions
- emotions dictate decisions
- is generally negative ignores/denies problems
- close-minded
- doesn’t work well with teams/groups
- can’t deal with conflict or change
What is a mental disorder?
patterns of thinking or behavior that cause a person significant emotional pain or prevents normal functioning
What are general causes of mental disorders?
- inherited traits
- negative life experiences (traumatic)
- environmental exposure before birth

Anxiety Disorders
- refers to feelings of apprehension, dread, or uneasiness
- can be about no particular thing
OCD meaning
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
OCD
- preoccupying with certain stressing thoughts and uncontrollable need to perform certain acts (compulsions)
- compulsions help control or block out anxiety (Checkers or cleaners)
Social Anxiety
- fear of everyday normal interactions with others due to the fear of judgment, embarrassment, and the unknown
Phobias
- an extreme or irrational fear of an object or situation
PTSD meaning
Post-traumatic stress disorder
PTSD
- a long-term struggle to recover from a traumatic event
Trauma: a deeply distressing, disturbing, or painful experience (Common examples: natural disaster, victim, witness of violence)
Signs of PTSD
- intrusive thoughts, nightmares, etc…
- avoidance of thoughts, conversations, etc…
Treatments of PTSD
- Therapy: Various kinds
- coping strategies: to help face, processes, and move on from trauma, exposure
- medication
Schizophrenia
- (untreated PTSD)
- marked by delusion, hallucinations, apathy, thinking, abnormalities, and a split between thought and emotions
- 24 million people worldwide, 0.32%

- two or more separate identities or personality traits
- ability to control individuals’ behavior and thinking
- create alters to distance themselves from Pain and Trauma
ADHD meaning
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
ADHD
- combination of problems such as difficulty sustaining attention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior
- often diagnosed before the age of seven
- chronic interferences in multiple things (home, school, sports, etc…)
- most often treated with medication and/or therapy
