Q

Why do people with alcohol withdrawal usually have a thiamine deficiency as well?

A

Heavy alcohol use causes inflammation of the stomach lining and digestive tract, which reduces the body’s ability to absorb vitamins. People will also often drink rather than eat and do not get enough vitamins such as thiamine.
